Essential Question: What education and skills are needed and beneficial to succeed in topics of study at the university level and in careers that you deem engaging and worth while?
The most necessary thing I have ever learned is how to create purpose in day to day life. This is something that I did not learn through school but will be the single most important thing to utilize in the workplace. I must keep myself motivated and engaged and keeping sight of purpose will provide that. Purpose can mean a multitude of different things, it could mean completing a small job, a little victory, or single-handedly changing something that is extremely flawed and corrupt. Purpose is extremely subjective and it can be changed. As long as day to day purpose stays in sight, I know that I will go places. To achieve my dream, I have to work extremely hard. I started working towards this dream two years ago. It provides purpose, a legacy of sorts, but even still I focus on day to day.
I want to study Philosophy in college because it fascinates me now. Necessary skills that revolve around said major are very unique. In order to think and question I need to focus on my thoughts and my feelings, which I have done for many years. There is no way to teach somebody how to think, but I do read the teachings of the greats. There is nothing much to learn with philosophy, besides learning the self. Being able to recite quotes in Latin or Greek does not make a great philosopher, understanding your individual mind does.
On the more academic side of things, all of the public speaking and group skills that I've learned. The past 7 years at High Tech have taught me how to collaborate and advocate, for myself and also others. Verbal skills are some of the most important things we can develop. Self advocacy is extremely important, especially in something like college. We need to speak our minds. Collaboration is necessary, especially in the work place. We're going to need to utilize our voices throughout our lives.

Interview:
I chose to interview my close friend Zack who is currently enrolled in college. We started by talking about the application process.
"Applying is fairly simple, you have to start early. As soon as registration starts check if they need any prerequisite tests. Check if your school even cares about the SAT and ACT. Make sure to start writing the essay early. You need to make it unique, most people care about the introduction. You need to stand out. Make sure you know your major going into College, it makes things a lot easier."
We then began talking about his personal experience with college, notably the first year.
"I really had a hard time managing the payments initially. I didn't know how much loans would suck until I realized how much money was amassed. I applied early, all of that, and tried to keep my essay extremely unique. It's hard to balance work and school, but it's necessary and I manage."

Reach
Acceptance Rate: 31%
Student Pop: 1,411 Tuition & Fees: $52,150 SAT Range: 1320-1440 GPA Average: 3.9 Reed is my reach for the soul purpose that it is very very expensive. I think that this school would be a perfect fit for me. The school seems to care extensively about the students themselves and what they represent. I feel as if my ideologies and thought process would be accepted at a school like Reed. It's pretty pretentious but it seems like a really nice fit.
