Measuring Your World
The Mathematics We Covered
This semester we have been covering area and volume. We started with the area of regular shapes. Squares, triangles, the basics. As we got more and more comfortable with area we did the area POW. In this POW we found the area of more complex shapes. After familiarizing ourselves with area, we began to work on volume. We started with the volume of regular prisms and pyramids, but moved on to more complex shapes. We familiarized ourselves with the different formulas for different shapes. For example Pir2 x H is the formula for finding the area of a cylinder. We did the usual practice and class lesson, as is the norm.
Measuring Your World Project
After learning the basics of area and volume, the Measuring your World project was assigned. We were tasked with choosing an item, it could be anything, and finding its area or volume. Dr. Drew gave us the example of buildings, vehicles, and even items such as cell phones. Some students chose cups, cars, even people. I walked a different path.
Designing My Own Project
I chose to find the volume of an AH-64 Apache Longbow. The AH-64 is an american attack helicopter used by the US Army.
